Why is the third Monday of January described as ‘Blue Monday’? The most miserable day of the year. Does it resonate with you? Will lockdown 3.0 make it even worse or more likely this year than usual?

Apparently the reason many people feel particularly ‘blue’ today is (usually) due to several factors, including:

🔹 New Year’s Resolutions quite likely lapsed by now

🔹Weather generally cold and miserable

🔹 Holiday excitement a distant memory (possibly not as much buzz as usual this year though)

🔹 Work projects back in full flow

This year, we can probably add several more points relating to Lockdown rules and uncertainty to the list above.

Awareness is a good start. Better is to do something to begin to make changes. It’s good to know that even small changes can begin to make a difference. There are lots of articles filled with advice already out there. Some of it about changes you can make at work, some for personal or lifestyle adjustments. For me, the top tip I’ve seen is to reach out and to talk. Just don’t go through the blues on your own. For professional support, I’ll post some links in the comments.

I like the Nelson Mandela quote in the picture: “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” Mandela spoke many wise words. Another quote attributed to this great man was “Everyone can rise above their circumstances and achieve success if they are dedicated to and passionate about what they do.” Remember that everyone includes YOU!

Probably true to say that 2020 didn’t go quite how

anyone planned or had hoped.

How will 2021 start? What can you start today?

Don’t delay beginning because you can’t see the end just yet, or because it could take a long time to

achieve. Time keeps on passing no matter what you decide to do with it.

Saying that, sadly we also all need to be realistic. Some adjustments to our perfect plans may be needed to fit with what’s currently going on in the World. Some things are beyond our control. Look for what you can do and don’t focus on what you can’t. Take advantage of all the extra webinars and online training on offer. Start thinking now about how something you do today can be something you’re proud of when you look back a year from now.
